Elizabeth O. Tegins, MD, joined NJRetina in July 2019. Originally from Long Island, NY, Dr. Tegins recently relocated back to the tri-state area to join NJRetina after practicing in North Carolina for almost five years.
Dr. Tegins graduated from the Honors Program at Boston College and earned her medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine. She completed her ophthalmology residency training in Baltimore, MD, at The Kreiger Eye Institute at Sinai Hospital where she served as a Chief Resident. Throughout her medical training, Dr. Tegins has volunteered internationally to care for and to operate on patients across India as well as in Ghana, West Africa.
Dr. Tegins completed her training with a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Iowa, where she participated in experimental gene therapy surgeries. Following her training and prior to joining NJRetina, Dr. Tegins was in private practice in North Carolina with NC Retina Associates.
Dr. Tegins has published and presented research at national meetings. She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists. She is on the medical staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ and at the Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, NJ.
Outside of work, Dr. Tegins enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters and the family enjoys the beach, downhill skiing, playing tennis and traveling.
