Dr. Savant is an ophthalmologist, retina specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon at NJRetina. Born and raised in New Jersey, he attended Drexel University’s 7-year accelerated BS/MD program. Dr. Savant graduated magna cum laude with a major in Biological Sciences and earned honors with distinction from Drexel’s Pennoni Honors College. He received his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Pennsylvania, where he published research at the renowned Wills Eye Hospital. He was recognized for his leadership of the Streetside Prevention Point clinic in Kensington, Philadelphia, and received a peer-nominated commendation for academic and clinical professionalism.
Dr. Savant completed his residency at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, New York, N.Y. where he was selected as Chief Resident. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and received the Louis Girard Award for Resident Research. Dr. Savant was the first-ever resident recipient of the New York United Healthcare Fund’s Excellence in Healthcare Award for his work on quality improvement and resident education in the Mount Sinai Health System.
Dr. Savant then went on to complete a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Beth Israel Lahey Health/Boston’s Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He has presented at regional conferences and events nationwide such as ARVO, ASRS, Atlantic Coast Retina Club, and BRUIN. He has authored numerous papers in peer reviewed journals and most recently authored a chapter in the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Basic Principles of Ophthalmic Surgery. He was also selected as the American Society of Retina Specialist’s Advocacy Ambassador. Dr. Savant is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
In his spare time, Dr. Savant enjoys tennis, traveling with his wife, and spending time with his family.
