Dr. Leonard Feiner returned to his home state of New Jersey and joined NJRetina in 2006 as a Retina Specialist. Dr. Feiner graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. After deciding that medicine was his calling, he was awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health to support his studies at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he received his MD and a PhD in neuroscience.
Dr. Feiner joined the ophthalmology residency training program at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was the chief resident, followed by a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal disease and surgery and ocular oncology at the Barnes Retina Institute, Washington University, St. Louis. Dr. Feiner has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards for excellence in ophthalmological research, receiving the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology Resident Award, Ronald G. Michels Foundation Fellowship, and Heed Foundation Fellowship.
Dr. Feiner is on the medical staff of Clara Maass Medical Center and Hackensack University Medical Center. He is currently president of the New Jersey Retina Society.
Dr. Feiner has published more than 30 articles in the peer reviewed literature and has lectured at national and international meetings on numerous topics, including diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases in children, retinal vascular occlusion, and ocular lymphoma. Dr. Feiner has served as the Director of Clinical Trials for NJRetina and has been the Principal Investigator for 20 clinical trials. He serves as a consultant for several pharmaceutical companies.
Dr. Feiner is married with three daughters. He enjoys the outdoors, woodworking, and adventure travel.
