Dr. Eric S. Friedman joined NJRetina in 1995. Dr. Friedman earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University and attended the Brown/Dartmouth Program in Medicine, receiving his MD from the Brown University School of Medicine.
Following a foreign study fellowship at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, Dr. Friedman completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Eye and Ear Institute of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He then studied vitreoretinal disease and surgery and was selected Chief Fellow at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he completed his fellowship training.
Dr. Friedman is Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He is on the medical staff of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Dr. Friedman has researched, published, and presented at national meetings on topics in ophthalmology, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis, and retinal detachment. He has been a Principal Investigator in the national Complications of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (CAPT) Study, the Miravant Photodynamic Therapy Study, and the Vitrase for Vitreous Hemorrhage Study.
Dr. Friedman is the father of three who enjoys time with his family, masters rowing and sculling, skiing, and tennis.
