OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY (OCT)

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) - Much as ultrasound analyzes the retina with sound waves bounced off the retina, OCT analyzes the retina (but with a hundred times greater detail than ultrasound) by bouncing light waves off of the retina. A scanning light beam travels across the surface of the retina while a computer records the image of the retina with microscopic detail. In many patients, OCT is extremely important in deciding whether or not medical or surgical treatments will be beneficial.
