Fluorescein Angiography
Fluorescein Angiography is a specialized photographic test used primarily to study diseases of the retinal and choroidal blood vessels within the eye. The results of this test enable the physician to diagnosis with great accuracy many abnormalities of the retina and choroid which could not be diagnosed accurately otherwise. The results of this study also serve as a guide to laser treatment in many diseases of the retina and choroid. During a fluorescein angiogram, a patient receives an injection of sodium fluorescein into a vein in his or her arm. Rapid, sequential photographs of the retinal and choroidal blood vessels are then taken with a special digital flash camera.
